Nutcracker 2009

(Elizabeth just watched the introductory routines. She and daddy spent the rest of the show in the lobby.)

Nebuliz-her

The doctor originally prescribed three days of breathing treaments, three times a day. After the first night's treatment, Elizabeth went to bed and slept about an hour. Then she was awake and WIRED! She was awake for almost seven hours -- playing and laughing, but screaming if we tried to get her to sleep. I called the doctor first thing this morning and he said if she wasn't wheezing at bedtime to cut out that treatment and just do two a day. That's what we've done. today..so far, so good (she's asleep for now.) She does not enjoy the treatments, but this afternoon's went better with John holding her and the mask and me being silly and entertaining her. We're almost done -- just two more treatments tomorrow and as long as her fever stays away (which is has today!), then she'll wean off of the treatments Monday and Tuesday.

Sickie

Poor baby girl. Elizabeth had rough nights Monday and Tuesday earlier this week -- she seemed gassy, waking screaming and grunting like she was trying to pass gas. Early Wednesday morning, the fever came -- 102+, so I took her to the doctor. Our regular doctor was out, so she saw a fill-in who pronounced it a cold and said to call back if the fever wasn't gone by Friday. This morning, still 102, so we went back. Dr. Millar thinks the tummy troubles could indicate a UTI, but the cough concerned him, too, not to mention three days of 102 temps. Elizabeth is on her first ever round of antibiotics (which would knock out either a respiratory infection or a urinary tract infection) and we are now the proud owners of a nebulizer and will be giving Elizabeth breathing treatments this weekend. Baby girl is spending lots of time in my lap or in the sling. She's also getting her bottom molars in the midst of all this. It is hard being a baby!

Here Comes Santa Claus

With two kids in one picture, it's a compromise on finding one where they are both not unhappy and are both looking at the camera. What you end up with is a picture that neither looks great in.

Monkey See

Elizabeth LOVED the Satoro's stairs! She climbed all the way to the top on her own a few times. (Of course, Poppy was right behind her because he was ready to catch her if she fell.)

She loves playing "Monkey See, Monkey Do." You clap; she claps. You squeal; she squeals. You stick out your tongue; she does, too. She also took her one step a few times this week. I've said I thought she'd walk by Thanksgiving. Doesn't look like that's going to happen, but I can say she did take her first step before then.

Pow Wow Dance

Elizabeth and mommy joined in the dance at the Austin Pow Wow this weekend. If those people at the rail weren't in the way, you'd see some of the great native dress right next to us.

No pony rides or games or moonwalks or cookies for Little Miss Elizabeth. She loved the pizza and music, though!

Little Walker

Thanks to mama's buying coop, Elizabeth scored this beautiful woodpecker walker. It was originally ordered to be a Christmas or birthday present for Elizabeth, but I think she'll be walking on her own by then so I put it together for her yesterday.

Standing up

Just a few seconds at a time, but the girl can balance on her own now. (She is sucking on a tie from my shirt, but I don't think she is using it for balance.)

Another milestone -- one week shy of eight months. Go Elizabeth!

Close enough to crawling to cause trouble

She's mobile. That is for sure. And mobile babies get into things they shouldn't, like the cats' scratcher pad that is full of tasty cardboard and cat hair. Poor neglected baby, just crawling around eating whatever she can find while mommy gets dressed.

All she wants to do is, all she wants to do is STAND

She's been pulling herself up, with quite a bit of work, for a few weeks now. This past week, though, she gotten much better and much faster at it. I went in to get her from her nap (she naps in the girls' bedroom in the pack and play bassinet) and she was standing up playing with the froggie humidier that is on the nightstand between the bassinet and Caroline's bed.

Staycation 2009

Elizabeth at Kerby Lane
Elizabeth at Shady Grove

As I sat in the beach-entry pool at Rock 'n' River, nursing Elizabeth, I composed a sort of Dr. Seuess-like poem in my head. Consider it a memory of Elizabeth's staycation.
I have nursed on a boat. I have nursed in a cave.
I have nursed in a pool. I have nursed on a train.
I have nursed in a car. I have nursed near and far.

Loves the water!

Elizabeth played at the splash park yesterday. She, of course, wanted to drink the water as it shot out. This girl loves her baths. I usually just get in the tub with her. The other day, I got in first and washed my hair, then asked John to bring her to me. As soon as he walked in the bathroom with her, she got so excited waving her arms. He walked back into the bedroom to undress her and she got MAD!
